The Premium Shurfeed Granulator is a press side & central plastics granulator designed for quiet operation. Hosokawa Polymer Systems has taken its proven Shurfeed granulator chamber design a giant step forward with refinements that dramatically improve operating efficiency. A specially designed back wall smoothes material transition to the cutting circle to practically eliminate flyback while reducing overall shock to the system, noise and energy usage as well.

Another improvement: New Premium Shurfeed Granulator rotors run at slower speeds to decrease the velocity of materials in the chamber, reducing the ricochet effect. In total, operating efficiency achieved with this new chamber design delivers substantial improvement in noise reduction, flyback and energy efficiency. Polymer Systems has system-matched chamber, rotor and drive components in this new line of granulators to deliver efficient, trouble-free performance with the lowest possible power requirements.

The original Double Angle Cut configuration which includes three steep-angle rotor knives and two counter-angled bed knives, provides a high shear slicing action that produces a clean, uniform granulate at high throughput rates with low energy consumption. The new rotor design also puts more weight at the outer diameter to maximize use of kinetic energy and inertia for easier cutting of materials without jamming. Polymer Systems uses larger sheaves to further increase inertial forces.

When specified, a blower evacuation system can be fitted inside the machine's sound-proof enclosure for quieter operation and to minimize floor space requirements. The cyclone is mounted on the back of the granulator, so it doesn't require a separate stand and is portable with the granulator.

The grinding chamber is a weldment of high grade thick steel plate and is precision machined. Our screens are thicker than most competitors and we always use solid margins for increased strength. The rotors are all made to ensure long life and to take the demanding loading from tough recycling applications. We utilize an efficient "V" or chevron cutting technology to ensure high throughputs and clean cutting with tight knife gaps. Every rotor is dynamically balanced. We also incorporated a deflection bar (third bed knife) to improve the overall performance and reduce shock loading and wear. We use large tapered rolling bearing for the rotor to ensure alignment and long life. No Sticking or Clogging: HMG® Hot Melt Granulators feature a modified Shurfeed® cutting chamber specially designed for recovery of hot plastics up to 600° F without pre-cooling. Hot extrudate falls directly in front of the rotating knives and is passed through the cutting action immediately. The evacuation blower provides high volume air flow through the open rotor and expanded chamber area to cool material quickly. Close, uniform rotor-to-screen clearance and the scissors-cut blade configuration produce fast, positive throughput without material build-up in the chamber.

For certain applications our Hot melt granulators provide an inline, low cost solution to plastics recycling. Much simpler than an expensive large pelletizing system, our Hot Melt Granulator is ideal for recycling of hot plastic such as FEP, PE and PVC used in the wire and cable manufacture. With a water cooled chamber and rotor and using high volumes of air our Hot Melt Granulator can recycle plastic up to 600º F. The granulator is low profile and can fit under extruder and accept extrudate of PVC, PE or FEP directly from the die.

Our hot melt granulators can process materials that are hundreds of degrees and molten. By water and air cooling we can take this extricate from an extruder die and process it into smaller useable regrind. (Not all materials lend themselves to this process contact our office for more information).
